The gap between overtime wages and employer cost
Overtime wages are the direct rate-times-hours line. Employer cost can add a shift differential, included bonus, payroll burden, benefit burden, and a fixed weekly administrative amount. The overtime cost calculator keeps each line visible so a burden assumption never disappears inside a single percentage.
Payroll burden is modeled against all entered wages. Benefit burden has a separate selectable base because a benefit policy may apply to all wages, regular wages only, the overtime premium only, or a user-supplied amount. The tool does not decide which base is correct for an organization.
Cost stack for each independent scenario
Monthly average is annualized modeled cost divided by twelve; it is not a four-week shortcut. Cost per overtime hour uses total group overtime hours as its denominator and returns zero—not Infinity—when a scenario contains no overtime.
Decimal wage rates and hours remain unrounded until display. Recurring weeks control annualization, so a four-week project is not silently stretched to 52 weeks.

A six-hour weekly pattern for twelve weeks has a different planning footprint from ten overtime hours during one launch week. Give each pattern its own scenario name, employee count, hours, and recurring weeks rather than comparing a weekly total from one with an annual total from another.
The table and labeled bar chart use the same pure result object. Exact amounts are present in text and table cells; color is supplementary, so the comparison remains readable without the chart palette.
A staffing-budget example
For six employees at $24 per hour, six weekly overtime hours at 1.5x create $1,296 of direct overtime wages before differentials and burdens. A $1.50 differential on those hours adds $54. Payroll and benefit assumptions are then applied to their configured bases, followed by any fixed weekly cost.
Changing the second card to three overtime hours isolates how recurring volume changes the weekly and annualized labor-cost estimate. The calculator does not infer productivity, output, taxes, insurance classification, or hidden operational cost.
What this model intentionally leaves outside the total
The result excludes productivity gains or losses, employee fatigue, scheduling quality, legal compliance, tax advice, turnover, safety, recruiting feasibility, and payroll-system treatment. Those factors can be important even though they are not arithmetic inputs here.
Treat every percentage as a user-controlled assumption. Review current plan documents, payroll records, accounting treatment, and qualified guidance before using a modeled employer cost in a real budget.

Not in this model. Payroll burden applies to the wage base, while benefit burden uses the selected all-wages, regular-only, overtime-premium-only, or custom base.
What happens when overtime hours are zero?
Overtime wage and per-overtime-hour outputs return zero; regular labor and applicable burdens can still produce a weekly cost.
Why is monthly average annualized cost divided by twelve?
That keeps the recurring-weeks assumption intact instead of assuming every month has exactly four weeks.
Does the overtime cost calculator save scenarios?
No. This page recalculates locally but does not persist employer planning inputs.
Is the lowest cost a recommendation?
No. The output is a mathematical scenario comparison and does not evaluate operational, legal, human, or strategic factors.
